The George Gore Collection

Papers, 1922-1982

The George Gore Collection consists of biographical data on Gore; general and personal correspondence, accounts, bills & receipts, writings, speeches from his presidency of Florida A. & M. University, programs, and printed matter.

Boxes two and three contain material about Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society. Dr. Gore was the founder of the organization at Tennessee A&I State College in Nashville on November 26, 1937. The bulk of the material consisting of the original certificate of the charter of Phi Beta Tau chapter (1937), constitution & by-laws, general correspondence, handbook, hymn, the Alpha Kappa Mu Journal, minutes, newsletters and newspaper clippings.

Box three contain twenty-three photographs of Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society Conventions held at various historically black colleges. There are also programs, reports from committees and conventions and the ritual of the organization. Material is also included from the Association of College Honor Society.
